What Does Cloud Hosting Stand for?

What is cloud hosting really? The word 'cloud' seems to be quite fashionable in today's IT, Internet and web hosting terminology. Even so, only a select few actually are aware of what cloud hosting is. Perhaps it is a sensible idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a very long tale brief, we will firstly enlighten you on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Limited to a Remote Disk Storage Solely.

1. Offering a remote data storage solution, which involves one single disk storage device for all clients, does not transform any specific service provider into a genuine cloud hosting supplier.

The cPanel hosting corporations name the ability to distribute remote disk storage solutions a cloud hosting service. Until now there is nothing bad about the cloud labeling, but... we are discussing website hosting solutions, not remote file storage solutions for individual or corporate needs. There's always one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to dub a shared web hosting solution, powered by a single-server hosting environment, just like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. That's because the remaining parts of the whole hosting platform must be operating in exactly the same manner - this does not relate solely to the remote disk storage. The remaining services entailed in the entire hosting process also have to be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's extremely difficult. A very small number of service providers can really do it.

2. It Entails Domain Names, Mailbox Accounts, Databases, File Transfer Protocols, Hosting CPs, etc.

Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote file storage only. We are discussing a hosting solution, serving lots of domain names, web sites, email aliases, and so on, are we not?

To name a web hosting service a "cloud hosting" one calls for a lot more than supplying merely remote file storage mounts (or possibly servers). The email server(s) have to be dedicated exclusively to the email related services. Executing nothing different than these particular assignments. There might be only one single or possibly a whole array of electronic mail servers, based on the overall server load created. To have a true cloud hosting service, the remote database servers should be performing as one, irrespective of their actual quantity. Performing nothing different. The same goes for the clients' hosting CPs, the File Transfer Protocol, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an authentic cloud hosting solutions provider will support multiple datacenter locations on different continents.

Here's an illustration of a DNS of a true cloud hosting provider:

dns1.justvaluehosting.org

dns2.justvaluehosting.org

If such a Domain Name Server is furnished by your web hosting distributor, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud web hosting environment in use, but you can definitely be confident when you observe a Domain Name Server like the one below:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting service. This type of DNS merely manifests that the web hosting environment in use is one-server based. Probably it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-server web hosting platform and has a market share of more than ninety eight percent. In cPanel's case, one physical machine handles all hosting services (web, email, DNS, databases, File Transfer Protocol, Control Panel(s), web site files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Perverted Description of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting service is not confined only to a remote file storage solution, as lots of hosting suppliers wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, most of the file web hosting firms would have been categorized as cloud hosting ones long ago! They are not classified as such, as they simply deliver file hosting services, not cloud web hosting solutions. The file web hosting platform appears indeed quite simple, in comparison with the web hosting platform. The remote file storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's simply one simple segment of the whole cloud web hosting platform. There's a lot more to be discovered in the cloud hosting platform: the CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the mail cloud and... in the near future, maybe a few brand new clouds we presently are not aware of will come up out of the blue.
